I am a person who prefer firewire, or 1394 as we engineers calls it, because of the well thought out architecture the higher and more stable throughput at the same bandwith, the handling of multiple and chained devices in a very graceful way and so on.
Therefore I was happy to discover that IEEE has approved the standards for Firewire-1600 and Firewire-3200 now. I just hope that there will be devices out for these standards soon and cards that you can insert in the PC to use them with. That would be brilliant for a stand-alone disk array or something similar if for some reason you would not want to use Ethernet.
